Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell returned to his Route One roots with a visit to New Hope Housing’s family shelter, Mondloch House. The Governor, a Bishop Ireton graduate and classmate of one (or more!) Mondloch brother, spent an hour at the shelter, visiting with staff and residents. New Hope Housing’s Executive Director Pam Michell talked to the Governor and assembled guests about issues of homelessness in this community and what New Hope Housing and others are doing to provide solutions to homelessness. The Governor seemed to especially enjoy talking with New Hope Housing’s summer youth apprentices, all former shelter residents, who shared plans to attend Virginia colleges & universities, including Virginia State and NOVA. We look forward to the Governor’s support as we plan and budget for future housing solutions!
